ADI - Older Driver Research
We are undertaking research on behalf of Road Safety GB that aims to improve the ability of Approved Driving Instructors to support older drivers. As part of this research, we are providing free training to 300 ADIs. It is envisaged that a register of instructors, who have completed this training, will be promoted by Road Safety GB to their membership. We anticipate starting to deliver this training in the coming months. The training will take place over two days and will explore a wide range of issues that may impact on an older driver's ability including:
- Common collisions and why these may occur
- Glare recovery
- Loss of useful field of vision
- Hazard perception
- Diabetes
- Strength and flexibility
- Journey planning
- Driving retirement planning.
If you would like to receive further information, please complete the registration form. We simply need your name, the county where you are based, and an email address or phone number to contact you. We will provide more detailed information in the next few weeks. To be eligible for the training you will need to be:
- A fully qualified Approved Driving Instructor
- Be willing to complete all elements of the course and the evaluation
- Be willing, on completion of the training, to have your name entered onto a register that will be shared with Road Safety GB's membership.
Please note: by registering you are not committing yourself to this training and you are under no obligation to participate in the scheme, nor are we obliged to offer you this training, as places are limited and need to be fairly distributed across the regions.
How will the information you are providing today be used?
We will only use this to provide you with further information about the training and the project. Your information will be held in confidence and will not be shared with other organisations.
If you have any questions about the research project, please contact us via our contact page.
